Dear Colleagues,

Today is Doctors' Day and I am delighted to congratulate all of you for the work you do for the Miller School of Medicine. Monday, we heard about a formidable surgical procedure performed by Drs. Kato and Tzakis and their teams to save the life of a patient with invasive cancer. The teamwork and collaboration that were necessary to perform the surgery were truly amazing. Expertise in fields that usually do not interact -- solid organ transplantation and cancer surgery -- partnered seamlessly to provide the patient with a unique solution to her cancer problem. This is the UM/Miller School of Medicine at its best; I have great pride in what we achieve collectively.

This week, we also celebrated the inauguration of our new health system, UHealth, the health system of the University of Miami. Our school is 55 years old, and generations of physicians have created this opportunity for us. The physicians at the University of Miami are stronger and better than ever. It is our responsibility to make sure that South Florida becomes a medical destination, a place where patients from the region, all corners of the United States, and beyond come to receive care. Such opportunity is only possible because of all of you. It is about outstanding people, and you are the outstanding people who make it happen.

As the Dean of the Miller School of Medicine, I am so proud to be your partner and colleague; I am so proud to serve you. Together, there is no limit to what we can achieve. For all that you are doing day in and day out, I am deeply grateful.

Thank you,

Pascal J. Goldschmidt, M.D.
Senior Vice President for Medical Affairs and Dean
Chief Executive Officer, University of Miami Health System
