December Training Opportunities:
We cordially invite you or your designated HIV planner or policy maker to attend our upcoming Project SHARE (Sharing HIV/AIDS Research Efforts) seminar. Project SHARE represents a collaborative effort between the NIDA-funded University of Miami Developmental Center for AIDS Research (D-CFAR) and the Miami-Dade County Health Department, Office of HIV/AIDS (M-DCHD). Through a series of seminars, we aim to strengthen the linkages between HIV/AIDS researchers and practitioners within our South Florida community. The seminars focus on the dissemination of theory-based HIV intervention strategies that have been shown to be effective in scientific studies. Local University of Miami HIV/AIDS experts facilitate them. A community panel also responds to the presentation and discusses how these interventions can be adopted in our community.
The upcoming seminar will be facilitated by Lawrence B. Friedman, MD. Dr. Friedman has been the Director of the Division of Adolescent Medicine since 1997, having joined the service here in 1985. He actively participates in the recruitment and education of Pediatrics residents and medical students at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center, as well. His clinical experience and research interests in adolescent health have lead to grant funding for numerous programs related to prevention of HIV infection and other sexually transmitted processes, general health promotion for youth, and care of young people with chronic diseases.
The seminar will be held on Monday, December 17, 2007 from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM at the Parrot Jungle Tree Top Ballroom. Lunch will be served. This event is free of charge. As seats for the event are limited to 150, we will be reserving them on a first come, first served basis. Please R.S.V.P. to Tamy Kuper at (305) 243-6430 or Tkuper@med.miami.edu by Wednesday, December 12, 2007 to reserve your seat.
