Office of the Dean: Wellness Letter

Wellness Letter 2.08.2012

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Pain is a leading public health concern in the United States that affects more Americans than diabetes, heart disease, and cancer combined. In fact, lower back pain is the most common reason patients visit a doctor. If you or someone close to you is experiencing chronic pain – such as muscular pain, headaches, post-surgical pain, or pain from cancer – you need a solution.

The UHealth Institute for Advanced Pain Management recently opened a new clinic in the Medical Wellness Center. The Institute brings together an entire team of board-certified physicians and other experts to diagnose, treat, and manage all types of pain. Here, we apply a multidisciplinary approach to evaluate and treat pain safely and effectively with sub-specialties that include physical and rehabilitation medicine, pain management, physical therapy, neurology, psychiatry and integrative medicine.

The UHealth team considers all treatment options, including rehabilitation, physical therapy, pain education, psychological counseling, physician-prescribed medication, and alternative therapies such as acupuncture. With more options, the likelihood of successful pain management is increased. This approach does more than decrease pain; it also helps patients develop improved mobility, a more positive outlook, and better overall quality of life.

If you or a loved one is experiencing pain, our team of specialists using the most recent research findings is here for you. For more information or to make an appointment at the UHealth Institute for Advanced Pain Management, please call 305-243-8500.

Sincerely,
