Our 50th Anniversary year spans 2006-2007 to mark the founding of the Department in 1956 and residency program in 1957. Please explore our history by clicking on our contributions in dermatological “firsts,” leadership, and books. For those of you who trained at the Department, let us give you a snapshot of our current efforts to fill our missions of education, research, clinical care, and community service. Education - We are currently in the midst of an incredible growth period and now have 17 faculty members, 21 residents, and 8 fellows and postdoctorates. Our faculty is productive and prolific and have recently published seven textbooks. Research - We currently perform and participate in cutting-edge research in skin cancer, skin infections, and wound healing and receive significant NIH, industry, and benefactor support of research. Clinical Care - Our physicians are recognized by their peers and their patients - all of the South Florida dermatologists listed in Best Doctors in America are current or former faculty, voluntary faculty, or former residents. We have over 60,000 patient visits from an ethnically and socio-economically heterogeneous group. Community Service - Our work with the Camillus House Homeless Shelter was recognized by an award from the Florida Department of Health Community Service.
We are excited to celebrate 50 years of incredible history with you. Please send any pictures, anecdotes, additions, or corrections to Derm50years@med.miami.edu.
