Program

All appointees must pursue their training and research on a full-time basis devoting 100 percent to this effort. Fellowships are generally for three to twelve months and are renewable for up to three consecutive years. Fogarty trainees are encouraged to seek other sources of funding for additional periods, if necessary, to complete their research or professional training. Funding and guidance are provided for approved re-entry projects.

The FIC Training Program provides financial support that includes round trip airfare from home country to Miami, stipend for living expenses, health insurance, and funding to attend and participate in one US HIV/AIDS and/or TB research conference.

Short in-country courses and south-to-south workshops in specialized areas of HIV/AIDS are also offered to develop local resources. In addition, work in targeted countries by eligible medical students and faculty is encouraged.
