Health Research in the Americas Conference: HIV Prevention
May 7-8, 2009, 8 a.m., Michael S. Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education,
Broad-Bussel Auditorium, Clinical Research Building

The Health Research in the Americas V Conference, sponsored by the University of Miami Fogarty International Training Program in AIDS and TB and UNAIDS, will focus on “HIV Prevention Across the Lifespan”. Presentations will cover prevention methodology among pediatric, adolescent, adult, and aging populations.  The conference will provide current HIV prevention information for clinicians, students, researchers and non-clinical health workers in order to address the increasing prevalence rates of HIV, and the need for clinicians and researchers to address prevention efforts among vulnerable and difficult to reach populations.Presentations will take place on May 7th  from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Gordon Center for Research in Medical Education's Broad-Bussel Auditorium on the first floor of the Clinical Research Building.  The Keynote address “Know Your Epidemic! Know Your Response” will be given by Dr. Ruben F.del Prado, Fogarty Alumnus and UNAIDS Country Coordinator for Guyana and Suriname.  Speakers on the first day of the conference will focus on Pediatric, Adolescent, and Family HIV Prevention.  The conference will feature presentations and roundtable panels discussions with experts from UM and physicians and researchers from Latin America and the Caribbean.

The conference will continue on May 8th from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. also in the Broad-Bussel Auditorium at the Gordon Center.  We are honored to have the presence of Sir George Alleyne, Special Envoy for HIV in the Caribbean as the keynote speaker. The conference will continue with presentations and roundtable panels on HIV Prevention among adults and the elderly.
