High Stakes Assessment Using Simulation Technology: Heart Sounds for Dummies

Upon completion of this activity, physicians should be able to:
1. Describe some of the challenges facing traditional assessments (using real patients) and how simulations may help to overcome these difficulties.
2. List the types of medical simulations used for testing in general, and specifically for evaluations of cardiology clinical skills.
3. Discuss the reliability and validity considerations that are especially important in high-stakes testing, and illustrate by examples from research conducted with the Canadian Royal while incorporating "Harvey" into their Internal Medicine board certification exams.
