Aldosterone as a Determinant of Cardiovascular and Renal Injury
Upon completion of this activity, physicians should be able to: 1. Appreciate the new paradigm of Aldosterone, including its non-genomic actions at the level of both the vasculature and the kidney. 2. Understand the wide panoply of mechanisms whereby Aldosterone acting through diverse cytokines and chemokines promotes renal and cardiovascular injury. 3. Appreciate the importance of resistant hypertension, and the efficacy of Aldosterone blockade in treating resistant hypertension.
