Research in Perioperative Care

  1. Submissions can report clinical and/or laboratory-based research or consist of a systematic review of a clinical problem. Research abstracts concerned with efficiency, cost, or method of health care delivery, quality of care, and medical decision-making are also encouraged.
  2. Evaluation of abstracts will be based on the following considerations:
    1. Originality (idea) - Is the idea truly different or a restatement of other work?
    2. Methods - What was done with the idea? Were the methods described? How reliable and valid are the methods used? Were new or untried methods validated and calibrated properly?
    3. Analysis - What was done with the data once they were obtained? Were statistical methods used, if necessary, and were they appropriate?
    4. Results - How valid were the results? Were they believable? How well were they described?
    5. Conclusions - Were any conclusions drawn? Were the conclusions appropriate to the questions asked and to the results? Were the conclusions valid?
    6. Writing - Is the style grammatically correct and is the paper presented in a well-organized, clear and understandable fashion?
  3. Abstract must include title, background, methods, results and conclusion (Do not use phrases such as “The results will be discussed.”).
  4. Please do not refer to authors or institutions within the title or the body of the abstract because the review is blinded
