Outpatient Dialysis Transplantation

The division cares for over 450 patients with end stage renal disease receiving maintenance dialysis. Patients are treated in one of four university-affiliated dialysis clinics located throughout Miami-Dade County.

The largest facility, conveniently located on campus provides care for 200 hemodialysis and 80 peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients. The University of Miami PD program is an active teaching program, and patients are followed by a nephrology fellow and attending physician.

Through our partnership with DaVita Healthcare and the Baxter Corporation, we have been able to provide an integrated program of patient education and clinical care that allows the patient to make an informed and appropriate choice of renal replacement therapy. Attending physicians in the division are both medical directors of the dialysis clinics and primary providers of care for many of the ESRD patients in our units. Fellows follow hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis patients longitudinally in the on-campus units in their second year of training.
