Interventional Cardiology

Interventional Cardiologists in the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine’s Cardiovascular Division perform a large number of cardiac catheterizations, angioplasties, stent procedures, valvuloplasties, and vascular procedures yearly, including in complex cases where until recently open heart surgery might have been required.

Our faculty includes experts in valvular and structural heart disease; coronary stents and techniques to prevent or treat restenosis; vascular disease; the prevention of complications from invasive procedures; hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; and stem cell therapy for heart disease.

Interventional Cardiologists commonly treat coronary blockages.  But new techniques allow minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment of a variety of other cardiovascular conditions, including:

  • Atrial Septal Defect or Patent Foramen Ovale
  • Aortic Valve Stenosis
  • Mitral Valve Stenosis
  • Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy

From expert consultation about the best medical management of chest pain and coronary artery disease, to emergency procedures in life-threatening situations including acute myocardial infarction (heart attack), to considering treatment options for other complex cardiovascular problems, UM cardiovascular specialists bring their clinical experience, research expertise, and personal attention to patients and referring physicians.
