Non-invasive Cardiology and Imaging
Modern practice of cardiovascular medicine integrates the patient’s history and clinical examination with advanced techniques for imaging the anatomy and the function of the heart and blood vessels. With these techniques, disease can be detected years before symptoms or "events" occur; the results of these studies guide therapeutic decision-making.
Cardiologists in the University of Miami Cardiovascular Division utilize old-fashioned patient care, with technologically advanced techniques for seeing the heart and blood vessels non-invasively. With tools such as cardiac MRI, for example, cardiologists can provide assessment of ventricular function and myocardial mass, coronary anatomy, and myocardial viability. Cardiac CT can quickly and painlessly deliver an answer to the question "Do I have coronary artery blockages?" And advanced echocardiographic ultrasound techniques can diagnose subtle abnormalities of heart function which can be improved by medication, pacemaker therapy, or other treatments.
