Jay S. Kerzner, M.D., is assistant professor of clinical medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Kerzner graduated from Swarthmore College and received his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He trained in medicine at Montefiore Hospital in Bronx, New York; Hahneman Hospital in Philadelphia; and in Cardiology at Brigham in Boston. He completed a research fellowship in cardiology in the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health.

Prior to joining the University of Miami, Dr. Kerzner practiced clinical cardiology in South Florida for many years, and served as medical director of the Cardiac and Vascular Institute, director of medical affairs, and chief of staff at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, Florida. Dr. Kerzner was instrumental in elevating the treatment and care of cardiovascular disease at Memorial Regional Hospital, including the creation and development of several educational and quality improvement programs. He practices consultative cardiology, including a focus on challenging clinical problems and preventive cardiology.

Personal Statement

     I grew up in Philadelphia Pa. and went to school in the Philadelphia area- Swarthmore College and University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. My medical and cardiology training was in Philadelphia, New York ,and Boston at Montefiore , Hahneman and Brigham and Women's  hospitals. I spent 2 years in the Navy as chief of cardiology at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital in California. I settled in Hollywood Fla in 1973 where I practiced cardiology for 34 years befor joining the University of Miami in 2007.In my practice over the years I saw many patients who were from areas in the country in which I had lived and trained. In Hollywood I served as Chief of Cardiology, Chief of Staff, Director of Medical Affairs, and Medical Director of the Cardiac and Vascular Institute at Memorial Regional Hospital

      My focus is on general cardiology. My approach is conservative and humanistic, looking at the individual person with a medical issue. I am happy to be part of such an excellent UM faculty, participating in the teaching of wonderful trainees, and working in a collegial, intellectually charged environment.
