Agustin Castellanos, M.D., is professor of medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Castellanos received his undergraduate degree at Baldor Institute in Havana. He underwent a special six-month pre-med course at Johns Hopkins University before returning to Havana to receive a medical degree at the University of Havana School of Medicine. He trained in medicine at Municipal Hospital in Cuba and completed an additional internship in medicine at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. Dr. Castellanos' first publication was in 1949. He has since published more than 500 peer-reviewed articles and 88 book chapters. Dr. Castellanos has received many honors and awards over the years, including recognition from La Asociación Puertorriquena del Corazon for his extensive contributions to modern cardiology, scientific knowledge, and the academic formation of many of their Puerto Rican physicians, as well as from The Interamerican Society of Cardiology, which honored Dr. Castellanos for more than four decades of participation in their congress. He is well-known as one of world's foremost experts in electrocardiography.
