Welcome to the Division of Rheumatology and Immunology, University of Miami / Jackson Memorial Medical Center. The Division of Rheumatology and Immunology has been nationally renowned for research, education and clinical care of patients with the rheumatic diseases for almost five decades.
The current division members actively engage in federally funded research in the areas of autoimmunity, systemic lupus erythematosus, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The division has an active fellowship program training physician-scientists and clinicians-educators. Faculty participate in the training of medical students and residents in a variety of specialties about care of patients with the rheumatic diseases.
Eric L. Greidinger, M.D., associate professor of Rheumatology, has been named interim chief of the Division of Rheumatology, within the Department of Medicine, at the Miller School of Medicine. He takes over for Robert Hoffman, D.O., who has left to pursue an exciting opportunity at Eli Lilly. Dr. Hoffman had a wonderful impact on the division of rheumatology and in his role as associate chair for science in the department. We wish him every success.
"Eric Greidinger is an outstanding rheumatologist doing ground breaking work in the fundamental immunologic lesions which underlie collagen vascular diseases. He has already developed a robust plan for building the division academically and clinically" said Marc Lippman, M.D., Kathleen & Stanley Glaser Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine.
Dr. Greidinger is a specialist in Rheumatology with a special interest in tissue targeting in autoimmune diseases. He received his undergraduate degree at Princeton University and his medical degree at the University of Michigan. Dr. Greidinger completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan, and a fellowship in rheumatology at Johns Hopkins. He joined University of Miami School of Medicine in 2004 as an assistant professor after appointments as an instructor at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD and as an assistant professor at the University of Missouri, Columbia, MO.
During his tenure at the University of Miami, Dr. Greidinger has been the recipient of a Stanley J. Glaser Research Award, and is currently the Chair of the VA Research and Development Committee.
Dr. Greidinger’s new responsibilities commence as of November 1st, 2009.
