Dr. Santos is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He earned his M.D. in 1994 at the University of Panama School of Medicine, Republic of Panama. Dr. Santos completed his internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at JacksonMemorialMedicalCenter, University of Miami School of Medicine, Miami, Florida (1998-2001). Then, he went on to complete his fellowship in Hematology-Medical Oncology (2001-2004) at SylvesterComprehensiveCancerCenter, Miami, Florida. Dr. Santos participated actively in the development of several clinical and translational research projects at University of Miami. His major interest has been the development of Phase I and Phase II clinical trials for lung cancer and hematologic malignancies especially lymphoproliferative disorders (chronic lymphocytic leukemia, lymphoma, and multiple myeloma). In 2004, he joined Tulane University School of Medicine as Assistant Professor of Medicine. At Tulane University, Dr. Santos served in several administrative positions including the Associate Scientific Director of Tulane Cancer Center’s Office of Clinical Research, Chair of Committee Research Advisory Board (C.R.A.B), Associate Director of the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program, Co-Leader of the Clinical Research Program for Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium-Tulane, Chief of Hematology/Oncology section at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System, and Institutional Principal Investigator for the Southwest Oncology Group (SWOG).

 

In 2008, Dr. Santos joined the University of Miami/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center where he continues serving the fellowship training program as the Associate Director and is actively involved in teaching activities including the mentorship program for hematology/oncology fellows as well as the educational core curriculum. Dr. Santos continues his clinical practice in lung and head/neck malignancies and malignant hematology, and his clinical/translational research in thoracic oncology. He has authored and co-authored several manuscripts and book chapters, and serves as reviewer for several medical journals. Dr. Santos has lectured on topics related to lung cancer, lymphoproliferative disorders, and multiple myeloma. His is an active full-member of the ACP, ASH, ASCO, and AACR.
