Welcome

Welcome to the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Memorial Medical Center. The Division is committed to excellence in patient care, education and research.  Miami is a gateway to the world, a major link to the Caribbean, South and Central America and the home to many and diverse immigrant populations.  The infectious diseases encountered include not only those seen throughout the United States, but also many infections associated with the tropics and under-developed areas. The extensive experience in infectious diseases provides a clinical experience of a breadth rarely seen elsewhere.

The Division faculty provide an array of clinical services at Jackson Memorial Medical Center, the new University of Miami Hospital, the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, Miami Veterans Administration Medical Center and Mt. Sinai Medical Center as well as the Miami-Dade County STD Clinics. Services range from inpatient consultations in the five affiliated hospitals to primary care of patients infected with HIV.  Private outpatient consultations are available at several locations.  Faculty members located at Mt. Sinai Medical Center provide travel medicine consultation to persons who use Miami as home base for their world travels, as well as travelers from outside the area.  The Division administers the clinical aspects of the Public Health Department's Sexually Transmitted Diseases program in Miami-Dade County.

The center of clinical activities is the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital Medical Center.  The 1500 bed facility provides medical care to an urban population of more than one million local citizens as well as receiving referrals from the entire hemisphere.  The medical center serves as one of the busiest transplant centers in the United States with the usual milieu of transplant related infections.  A thriving clinical practice has grown over the past decade for the care of a patient population of approximately 3500 patients infected with HIV.  Closely affiliated with the medical center are the 700 bed Miami Veteran's Administration Medical Center, the University of Miami Hospital and the University of Miami Hospital and Clinics/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.  Our fifth in-patient facility is the Mount Sinai Medical Center which provides a community based clinical setting supervised by renowned infectious diseases and travel medicine professionals.
