MFA's Annual Spring Fund Raising Dinner to be held Friday, March 24, 2006

An Evening by Sailboat BayMiami, FL. UM Faculty and Administration are invited to attend  The Medical Faculty Association of the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami  annual spring fund raising dinner on Friday, March 24th.  Entitled “An Evening by Sailboat Bay”, this year’s party will be held at Shake A Leg Miami water sports facility in Coconut Grove.  Tickets to the cocktails and dinner event are $125 per person, and proceeds benefit the MFA Medical School Student Endowment Fund.

The Medical Faculty Association is a voluntary organization that provides support to the medical school community at the University of Miami, and promotes fellowship amongst the faculty and administration.  Proceeds from all MFA fund raising efforts are applied towards scholarships and awards for medical, nursing and graduate students.

“The Spring Party is the MFA’s major fund raising effort all year,” explained MFA President Valerie Ricordi.  “We are all very aware of the financial challenges our students face in their pursuit of their education and we are pleased to be able to help deserving students reach their goals.”

The party this year will be held at the open-air pavilion of Shake A Leg Miami, 2620 South Bayshore Drive, Coconut Grove.  Shake A Leg is a sailing center and water sports facility for physically, mentally and financially challenged people with programs that enhance the participants’ independence, employment and quality of life.

Located on the shores of Sailboat Bay in Coconut Grove, the facility has a breathtaking, one-of-a- kind view of Biscayne Bay, Key Biscayne and downtown Miami.  Shake A Leg Miami is closely affiliated with the University of Miami’s Project to Cure Paralysis.

The Medical Faculty Association holds two fund raising events a year and meets informally 4-5 times a year.  “An Evening By Sailboat Bay” will feature cocktails, a buffet dinner and silent auction.   Items for auction include a European Cruise for two on Celebrity Cruise lines, a summer escape weekend at Snowbird Resort in Snowbird Utah, golf for 4 at the Doral’s “Blue Monster” course, and original artwork by MFA member Nettie Belle Robinson.  Due to the open air setting, attire is casual.  For more information or tickets to “An Evening By Sailboat Bay”, contact Valerie Ricordi at 305-804-9705 or by email at ricordi@hotmail.com.  This event is open to any member of the UM faculty administration and their families and friends.
