Brief History of the Medical Faculty Association of the University of Miami >>

The University of Miami School of Medicine founded.
Medical Faculty Wives (MFW) created. Twenty-one wives of the medical faculty organized the club to welcome new faculty wives to the medical school and to the Miami community.

Newsletter and yearbook first published. There were 154 members listed in the first yearbook and dues were two dollars a year. Membership grew to include wives of the voluntary and part-time faculty, as well as wives of administrators at the medical center.
By-laws printed in the yearbook. The mission of the organization was to offer friendship and helpfulness to wives of the medical faculty and administrators and to provide service to the Medical School and Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Medical Faculty Wives Medical Student Loan Fund established. A MFW Benefit Tea raised $500 which was used to create a short-term medical student loan fund. Maja Slotta identified and secured Federal funds that matched donations nine to one, thereby facilitating the early growth of this fund. Providing funds and assistance to the medical students became the primary endeavor of the group.
A regular pattern of board and general meetings evolved over the years. General meetings featured lectures, book reviews, demonstrations, and tours. Projects were always an important part of the organization. Members donated endless time and boundless energy to help improve facilities and to provide needed services to patients at the medical campus.
