This presentation is concerned with the first experimental evidence for the genetic role of DNA, which came from the laboratory of Oswald T. Avery at the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research. Having been involved for several years during the later stages of this work, I chose to write a book (1) about it after I had retired from laboratory research. The book is still available and serves to provide the essentials on the basic findings as well as the necessary background in the related areas of study.
