FAQ's

-General-

How do I know which resources are available to me?

The resources listed in the Shared Resources List are available on a fee-for-service, and first-come first-served  basis to all UM investigators (faculty members) and students.  However, some resources may provide preferential access to affiliates of a specific grant, center, institute or department that may be supporting the resource.  In other cases, affiliation may only result in a subsidy towards the services offered by the resource.  It is best to contact the individual resource for specific access and usage information.

I want to create a new shared resource / core facility, How do I do that?

If your lab provides a service that you would like listed on the Shared Resources List, please contact Anil Lalwani.  The procedure to create a shared resource is dictated by UM policy B020, and requires approval of the billing rate by the Controllers office. Please contact Anil Lalwani if you require assistance in the planning and creation of a recharge center based resource on the medical campus.

I want to use the core service today, but it is not available today, what do I do?

All scheduling, staffing and hours of operation related policies and decisions are the responsibility of the Core Leader or Facilities Manager who operates the resource.  If you have concerns about inadequate or inappropriate service, feel free to contact Anil Lalwani.

-FAQ's For Shared Resource Managers & Leaders-

Can I offer different levels of discounts to different investigators?

Yes and No. All discounts must be reflected in the billing rate approved by the Controllers office. Ad hoc rate adjustments for individual investigators will result in violating university policies and potential compliance issues. Instead, consider creating seperate volume based discounted service rates.
