Four University of Miami faculty members, representing disciplines from history and philosophy to medicine and marine science, are the recipients of the Provost’s Award for Scholarly Activity, which recognizes extraordinary research and scholarly pursuits. The four were honored Monday at a special ceremony at the Storer Auditorium. From left are Executive Vice President and Provost Thomas J. LeBlanc and award recipients Norma Sue Kenyon, the Martin Kleiman Chair in Diabetes Research and director of the Wallace H. Coulter Center for Translational Research at the Miller School of Medicine; Guido Ruggiero, professor and chair of the Department of History in the College of Arts and Sciences; Lora Fleming, professor of epidemiology and public health at the Miller School who holds a joint appointment in the Division of Marine Biology and Fisheries at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science; and Risto Hilpinen, professor of philosophy in the College of Arts and Sciences.
