What is Primary Care?

Primary health care is the first point of access for most people, and therefore the connector to the rest of the health system.  The goal of the University of Miami Medical Group’s Primary Care Network is to ensure continuity between all levels of care required by our patients.

Primary care physicians - family practice doctors, internists and pediatricians, can address the majority of your healthcare needs.  Ideally, they develop long-term relationships with their patients, providing care ranging from routine screenings to chronic disease management.  When necessary, primary care physicians serve as a gateway to more advanced levels of care from specialists.

Primary care emphasizes health education, prevention and wellness, as well as early screening and detection of disease.
