The Center for Genetic Epidemiology and Statistical Genetics (CGESG) at the John P. Hussman Institute for Human Genomics includes faculty and staff who are leaders in computational genetics and conduct cutting edge research methods to discover and map the genes responsible for diseases in families and in populations.

The center pulls together expertise in:

  • Genetic epidemiology
  • Statistical genetics
  • Bioinformatics
  • Statistical programming

The CGESG is led by Director, Eden R. Martin, Ph.D., a statistical geneticist with experience in theoretical methods development and applied research. Her research has focused on the use of statistical methods for mapping complex human disease genes. Her experience extends over 20 years of managing analysis of large genetic studies in Parkinson disease, autism, and Alzheimer’s disease. In addition, she works on studies of the genetics of sexual orientation. Dr. Martin is known for her development of several popular family-based association methods.  Most recently her research has had a focus on gene discovery in diverse, admixed populations, such as in Peru and Bolivia.
